Harlingen in Cameron County, the southernmost county in Texas at the center of Rio Grande Valley, is the site of the Rio Grande Valley International Music Festival held each Spring, the principal commercial shipping and transportation crossroads for the area, the heart of the Brownsville - Harlingen - San Benito metropolitan area, and is known as the "tropical playground of Texas." Many day trips are available in Harlingen, and south along the North Expressway (U.S. Highway 77 / 83) to Brownsville, for exploring the scenic Rio Grande Valley, the Free Trade Bridge south of Harlingen which connects Los Indios, Texas to Matamoros, Tamaulipos, Mexico, nationally famous golf courses, one of a kind art galleries and museums. Just east of Harlingen, the Port of Harlingen is a major connector along the Gulf Intracoastal Waterway between Brownsville at the Mexico border and cities to the north and east across the entire Gulf coast all the way to St. Marks, Florida.
